On August 23, 2004, new federal FLSA regulations went into effect. Many workers may lose federal overtime protection. However, overtime laws of some States will continue to protect workers as before. In Illinois, based on a bill co-sponsored by Barack Obama, Illinois workers will continue to receive the protection of overtime laws as they existed before the Bush administration's revisions to the FLSA regulations. For the impact on State law elsewhere, contact an employment attorney in your area. See U.S. Employment Lawyers for a list of attorneys who may practice overtime law.
